Team Canada Loses To Slovenia 92-80

After just three days of practice in Toronto, flying to Venice on Wednesday and hoping on a bus to Slovenia, the Senior Men’s National Team lost the opener of their 11 game exhibition tour on Thursday 92-80 to host Slovenia.

Canada Basketball reports the team was led by Cory Joesph and Jevohn Shepherd with 11 points each. Kelly Olynyk and Andrew Nicholson contributed 10 points each.

“For our first game I thought we competed well”, Head Coach Jay Triano said. “Obviously we have to learn the schemes and how to play better with each other at both ends of the floor.”

Team Canada will obviously be doing a lot of learning on the fly after just three days of practice. They stay in Slovenia to play Ukraine on Friday and then Georgia on Saturday before their first scheduled practice day of the trip on Monday.

“The guys all really want to be a part of the program, but for various reasons it’s hard to get everybody here at the same time,” Nash said.
