Canadian Dwight Powell Signs With Cleveland Cavaliers

Cleveland Cavaliers General Manager David Griffin announced today they have signed Canadian forward Dwight Powell.

The 6’11 240lb Powell was drafted 45th overall in June by the Charlotte Hornets after playing four years at Stanford where he averaged 10.8 points and 6.3 rebounds in 26.2 minutes per game. Powell also played for Canada in the World University Games in the summer of 2013.

Positives: he has international experience as a result of playing with team Canada. Four years at Stanford have helped to increase his basketball IQ.

Negatives: He’s already 23 and is still being described as “raw”. Physically, he’s too weak to be an NBA PF and lacks the ball-handling to play SF. #tweener

During his time in Canton with the Charge, he needs to improve his strength & conditioning to play in the post. As well, he needs to improve his ball-handling in order to drive the basket.
