The bane of every NBA team is just how tough the schedule is. Back-to-back games and sets of four games in five nights test the best and often decimate the worst. So just how tough have the Toronto Raptors been when tested by the schedule? So far, pretty tough.
The Raptors have played 11 of the 19 back-to-back series the NBA schedule has laid out before them and have collected an impressive 18 wins in those 22 games. In the withering four games in five nights sets, Toronto has seven wins in eight games including the back-to-back overtime wins over the Nets and Wizards on the road last weekend.
“Four games in five nights, a great win for us,” Head Coach Dwane Casey said. “You are playing against one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference and it was a tough game. We didn’t come here and expect to win by 20. We knew it was going to be a tough game and I am proud of our guys coming in and fight(ing) fourth game in five nights and really gutting it out.”
Washington has 31 wins on the season and is third in the Conference. With the win, the Raptors took the season series from the Wizards and holds the tie-breaker that could determine playoff seeding in April. This game mattered to both teams.
In a strange twist of fate, the Raptors have needed their back-to-back winning percentage of 81.8 as they are just 15-11 on the season when playing games that stand alone and these back-to-back sets haven’t been easy.
Toronto’s back-to-back wins this season have included:
The loses have come to Miami, Cleveland, Chicago and New Orleans.
The Raptors will need to gut out some more tough back-to-back sets before this season is over. They play four games in five nights on the road right after the All-Star break against Atlanta, Houston, New Orleans and Dallas. Now that’s a tough schedule.
