The Toronto Raptors All-Star and starting point guard Kyle Lowry will turn 30-years-old during the upcoming season and this realization has brought some changes to his usual summer workouts. Pictures of a new slimmed down Lowry went viral in social media, but the once stocky guard hasn’t slimmed down for the cameras, no this Raptor is getting ready for an 82 game schedule and a long playoff run.

Jordan Zirm presents an exclusive interview in STACK with Lowry about what’s behind the physical transformation of the veteran guard. The full interview is excellent reading. Here are a few excerpts:
it wasn’t about showing off my body. It wasn’t about anybody but myself… to make sure I’m the best player I can be for 82 games and a long playoff run.
The saying is, the older you get, the lighter you’ve got to be. I thought Ray Allen did a great job of that, and Chauncey Billups too. I’m getting to the point where I’m a little bit older.
I don’t play as much pick-up basketball during the summer as I used to when I was younger. I implemented bike riding and extreme Pilates.
I’m still lifting, still moving the same way I used to… I’ve always tried to be stronger than people and just a bigger bully… I’ve always worked hard, it’s just now I’m smarter and older and I know how to work.
